PUBLIC ART: SHOVEL TREE

SHOVEL TREE is a public art installation made of stainless steel and fused glass. It was commissioned by the Washington State Arts Commission.

The concept is three shovel handles coming together to form a fruit-bearing tree to highlight the strong sense of community that exists in Royal City, Washington. The Royal City Intermediate School serves as a community center for the entire town, and apple orchards are plentiful around the area. This dimensional wall sculpture is located on an exterior courtyard wall. Seven leaves also flow from  the tree along the wall, as if blown in the wind, to lead visitors to the gymnasium entrance.

A huge thank you goes to McCall Studios who did an amazing job on this project.
