PUBLIC ART: OPTICS OF ASSEMBLAGE

Out of recycled cardboard and shiny acrylic and shower curtains, I created a large “owl quilt”. I called the exhibit OPTICS OF ASSEMBLAGE and it was a one-night only show at JUMP for Illumibrate. It was so much fun.

The owl had large yellow eyes lit from behind. Along the path giant owl pellets made from quilt batting and tulle glowed with lights, cows, tractors, and little buildings swirled inside, like a tornado. (I leave little buildings all over so they’re like “my sign” – get it? Inside an owl’s sign? Nod and say yes).

Dan Beyer at JUMP has a genius and energy and creativity that are remarkable. Among many other things, he put together an opportunity for 3 artists to create temporary artworks for Illumibrate 2023, and I was excited to be one of them with Jim Daniels and The Colossal Collective.

The temporary installation was on the fifth floor in JUMP’s beautiful Move Studio. My daughter Kate even composed ethereal music layered with hooting Grey Horned Owls for the exhibit. A big thank you to JUMP Boise for the magical experience. I absolutely loved it.
