Having a random page for quotations is a perk of having your own website. I’ve collected quotations since grade school, here are just a few…

Perfection is boring, let’s get weird.  – Emily Henderson, interior designer

The intangible world of cyberspace, where more and more of our life takes place, creates a desire for its opposite, a world of the senses of smell, taste, and touch, as well as sight and sound.  – Elizabeth Pochoda

Sketchbooks are not about being a good artist. They’re about being a good thinker.  – Jason Santa Maria

You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.  – Robin Williams

Look at your mom, she fails all the time!  – my husband (encouraging our daughter to try something new and take a risk)

Waiter: Does anyone here need validation?  Debbie Johnson: Yes, will you tell me I’m pretty?

I have been feeling very clearheaded lately and what I want to write about today is the sea. It contains so many colors. Silver at dawn, green at noon, dark blue in the evening. Sometimes it looks almost red. Or it will turn the color of old coins. Right now the shadows of clouds are dragging across it, and patches of sunlight are touching down everywhere. White strings of gulls drag over it like beads. It is my favorite thing, I think, that I have ever seen. Sometimes I catch myself staring at it and forget my duties. It seems big enough to contain everything anyone could ever feel.  – Werner in Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See

The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work.  – Emile Zola

You got to believe in yourself. Hell, I believe I’m the best looking guy in the world and I might be right.  – Charles Barkley

As my artist’s statement explains, my work is utterly incomprehensible and therefore full of deep significance.  – Calvin & Hobbes

The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.  – Friedrich Nietzsche

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.  – Eleanor Roosevelt

Everyday happiness means getting up in the morning, and you can’t wait to finish your breakfast. You can’t wait to do your exercises. You can’t wait to get out – and you can’t wait to come home, because the soup is hot.  – George Burns

Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet. – Bob Marley

The perception that science and art are mutually exclusive fields is mostly useless. Fundamentally, artists and scientists are concerned with an identical proposition: trying to describe the world as they see it.  Both attempt to understand what it means to be human.  – Anthony Doerr

A career path is rarely a path at all. A more interesting life is usually a more crooked, winding path of missteps, luck and vigorous work. It is almost always a clumsy balance between the things you try to make happen and the things that happen to you. – Tom Freston

Age has given me the gift of me; it just gave me what I was always longing for, which was to get to be the woman I’ve already dreamt of being. Which is somebody who can do rest and do hard work and be a really constant companion, a constant, tender-hearted wife to myself.  – Anne Lamott

Whether people are fully conscious of this or not, they actually derive countenance and sustenance from the atmosphere of the things they live in or with. They are rooted in them just as a plant is in the soil in which it is planted.  – Frank Lloyd Wright

Who’s more interesting: A famous scientist, or the famous scientist who plays the cello and whittles marionettes in a lighthouse at the edge of the world where he sometimes writes poetry by the light of passing ships? Exactly. Follow your weird impulses and do all sorts of things. Getting sidetracked can lead you to exactly where you belong.  – Jessica Hagy
